Projects I'm proud of.

Exhibitions, screenings, book launches, and film presentations I've produced and curated.

Maripolarama

I produced Maripolarama at Don't Come Gallery in Melbourne, presented as part of the L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival. Maripol's camera was inside downtown New York in the early eighties — the clubs, the studios, the faces before they were famous.

Downtown 81

I hosted an exclusive Melbourne screening with VIC Young Bloods. It was followed by a live Q&A with the film's co-producer, Maripol — whose Polaroids I'd shown in Melbourne — and Basquiat's assistant, Brian "B.Dub" Williams.

Shot in 1981, it's the closest thing to a document of that New York, and a rare chance to hear it first-hand from the people who were there.

Fun Gallery… The True Story

I edited Patti Astor's memoir of Fun Gallery, and we launched it at Clic Bookstore and Gallery in Soho.

Patti co-founded Fun in 1981 with Bill Stelling — the first of the East Village galleries, and the one that put uptown hip-hop and downtown punk in the same room. Basquiat, Keith Haring and Fab 5 Freddy all showed there before the art world caught up.

We took the book on the road after that — small readings around the New York neighbourhoods Patti came up in, and one at the Standard in Los Angeles.

Irene Williams: Queen of Lincoln Road
Stitches and Craft Show · Melbourne

Irene Williams: Queen of Lincoln Road

I brought this film to the Stitches and Craft Show in Melbourne — a portrait of a woman who made her own clothes, wore them like armour, and became a Miami icon without ever asking permission.

She sewed everything herself.
